Barsom

The term comes from the Old Persian Barsom cult of Zoroastrianism. It refers to a bundle of sacred twigs that keeps the priest reading the Old Persian Zend Avesta in his left hand. This bundle is in turn bound with a particularly sacred band of palm leaves, which is called Evanguin. Depending on the part of the book you were reading the number of bonds is determined. The botanical response of the branches, however, is still unknown.
