Basal shoot

As root suckers or root sprouts plant shoots are called that are formed from root buds, adventitious roots growing on the surface. The growth of root sprouts is usually caused by a disturbance in the growth- budget. After being wounded form the hazel, lime, horse chestnut and elm root suckers, without wounding, the sweet chestnut, aspen, alders, poplars of the section Populus, Robinia, sorbs and pastures. Only a slight tendency to root suckers show mountain and pointed maple, oak, common ash, beech and hornbeam.
