The Basalt River is a river in the east of the Australian state of Queensland.
Geography
River
The river rises east of the settlement Reedy Springs on the eastern flank of the Great Dividing Range and flows east, parallel to the Great Basalt Wall to the south. Approx. 60 km north of Charters Towers, he crosses the Gregory Developmental Road and it flows into the Burdekin River.

Hydrology and agriculture
The Basalt River has a number of large, deep and permanently filled with clear water water holes. The land in its catchment area is predominantly used for cattle grazing.
