Baselios Paulose II.

Baselios Paulose II ( born June 12, 1914 in North Paravur, † September 1, 1996 in Piramadom Dayro ) was from 1975 to 1996, the second Catholicos of the Malankara India Syriac Orthodox Church within the Syrian Orthodox Church of Antioch.

Life

Paulose II was born in 1914 as PJ Paulose of parents Kasheesho Puthusseri Joseph, Vicar of St. Mary's Church in Cherai, and Elizabeth. After finishing school at the Cherai Ramavarma high school, he began his training at CMS College, Kottayam and on Alwayer Union Christian College.

In 1934 he was ordained a deacon in 1938 and priest ( Kassisso ) by Mor Yulius Elias, delegate of the Patriarch of Malankara. Paulose served as Vicar of churches in Ceylon, Madras, Bramhavar ( Karnataka ), Trivandrum, para Thode and Ponkunnam and later became secretary of Mor Yulius Elias. On October 19, 1952 in Homs consecration as Metropolitan Mor Philoxenus to the name by the Patriarch Ignatius Aphram I. Barsoum. On January 12, 1953, he was Metropolitan of Kandanad, the second largest diocese of the Malankara Church. For some time Mor Philoxenus also acted in addition as Metropolitan in the diocese of Kottayam and Quilon. On September 7, 1975, the Patriarch Ignatius Jacob III consecrated.
