Basket weaving

Flechtwerkgestalter / in is a nationally recognized training occupation by the Vocational Training Act and Crafts Code. The profession replaced since 1 August 2006, the training of professional basket-maker. The history of this craft stretches back to the Middle Stone Age. Flechtwerkgestalter finished baskets, wicker furniture and objets d'art by braiding materials such as wicker or rattan.

Center of German wickerwork is the town of Lichtenfels (Bavaria ), where the only specialized school for basketry is in Germany and takes place every year in September, the market basket.
