Basra Vilayet

The Vilayet of Basra or the Beglerbeglik Basra ( Basra Turkish Beylerbeyliği ) was an administrative province ( vilayet ) of the Ottoman Empire with its capital in Basra.

The Ottomans conquered Basra in year 1534th The vilayet was formed in 1538. By uprisings and campaigns Basra was sometimes linked to Baghdad or organized as a vilayet. In the 17th century it was de facto independent and was ruled by a local dynasty. Mid-century consolidated the empire 's power again. 1696 came Basra in Iranian hands.

In 1914 it was occupied by the British.
