Bass drum#Bass drum pedal

The foot pedal is used to the big drum ( bass drum ), or to play the Basscajón on drums with his foot. It consists of a mallet, which is on a chain or leather straps that are attached to the pedal pressed. The beater is mounted on a shaft so that it can swing back and forth, that is orthogonal to the skin of the drum. By stepping on the pedal the beater is beaten on the head. When the pedal is released, a spring ensures that the beater swings back.

Techniques

While playing, there are three techniques:

  • Heel -down: the whole foot is on the pedal, and it is moved by a rotational movement of the ankle joint. Especially good for very controlled game.
  • Heel -up: The heel is lifted off the pedal. Now the leg weight can be used in addition. Louder and faster game is so well done.
  • Heel - Toe: Here is alternately struck with the heel and the ball of the foot. Through this easy rocking motion two strokes with a foot movement can be achieved.

Doppelfußmaschine

Are to play double bass either two bass drums, each with a foot pedal or a single bass drum with a special double bass drum pedal used, which has two Beaters, which are driven by a permanently mounted on a drive shaft and a hanging pedal. These Pedals are as right, left or middle pedal version available (with two Kardanpedalen ). For some time, some companies also offer so-called twin- and triple -effect pedals, the former is a bass drum pedal with double beater, but only on a " pedal " function, which is divided into one footpad and a heel pressure point and the double bass lets you play with only one foot. The Triple Effect pedal is actually a twin -effect pedal, but one of the two mallets was additionally coupled to a further Kardanpedal, allowing extreme impact frequencies.

Playing the bass drum with both feet requires some practice, since the second foot is generally often required for the hi-hat. Accordingly, either must often switch between the Pedals or be used " Drop Clutch " with which the pelvis is locked in the open or closed position and changes its state by a treadle or slashing.
