Basti (Hindi: बस्ती, Urdu: بستى Basti [ bʌsti ] ) is a city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, with around 115,000 inhabitants ( 2011 census ). It is located in the northeast of Uttar Pradesh 65 km west of Gorakhpur and 75 kilometers east of Faizabad. Basti is the administrative seat of the district of Basti and Basti Division.

Basti was in the 17th century seat of a local Rajas, but never had more important. After the city was in 1801 came under British rule, had been in 1865 the district capital.

By Basti the National Highway 28 leads from Lucknow to Barauni. About the railway from Lucknow to Gorakhpur Basti is connected to the railway network.
