Bastøy Prison

The prison Bastøy (Norwegian Bastøy landsfengsel ) is a Norwegian institution for safekeeping of prisoners in Fylke Vestfold. It is located on the island Bastøy in the Oslo fjord about 75 kilometers south of Oslo. The island is about 2.6 km ². About 100 offenders are on the prison island, which is operated with a liberal concept.

By 1970, there were on the island a reformatory for boys. This was built by a Norwegian legislation on "Dealing with neglected children " from 1896. The film King of Devil's Iceland by Marius Holst discussed 2010, the life on the island and is based on true events.
