Bat Yam
Bat Yam, Bat Yam also (Hebrew: בת ים, " daughter of the sea ", Arabic بات يام ), is a city in Israel in southern Tel Aviv area in the Mediterranean.
History
The settlement, from which developed Bat Yam, was founded in 1926 by settlers south of Jaffa from Tel Aviv. The present name was given to the city in 1937, before he was called Bayit Vagan ( "House and Garden "). Until the Israeli state was founded in 1948, Bat Yam developed - as the neighboring Cholon - slowly, because it was away from the Jewish settlement areas and was therefore more exposed to Arab attacks. In 1958, Bat Yam was awarded the status of a municipality.
Meanwhile, Bat Yam has become one of the largest settlements in the Tel Aviv area. The place is known, inter alia, because of its beautiful sandy beaches. Along the sea promenade and many hotels have been built. The city is part of the Gush Dan metropolitan area.
