Bátaszék

Bataszek ( Badeseck German, Croatian Bacik ) is a city in southern Hungary some 160 km south of Budapest in Tolna county.

History

The first settlements were made in 1142, when King Géza had built an abbey. Beginning of the 18th century were settled in Bataszek German. After World War II, most German families were evacuated to Germany.

Traffic

Bataszek is located on the railway line from Baja to Sárbogárd. The city lies at the junction of the main road 56 Szekszárd after Udvar ( Croatian border ), and the main road 55 to Baja. As of March 31, 2010 Bataszek is accessible via the M6 motorway.

Environment

The area is dominated by vineyards and orchards. Larger towns are Szekszárd and Mohács. The Danube is 20 km away.

Attractions

In the city center is the 1903 built in neo-Gothic style Roman Catholic church Nagyboldogasszony.
