They develop from April to June ( according to other sources from May to June ) in the female catkins of willows and poplars, where the first crawler stages nate in flowers and seeds. Later stages live in silken cocoons between the seeds. Sometimes the caterpillars bore into the buds also based in these caves and they completely. The partially ejected faeces is visible in the form of a small pile will in the center of the bud. The last stages of caterpillars also eat between young leaves. The full-grown caterpillar leaves her cocoon to pupate in cracks of the bark of their host plant. The very slim brown dolls are in a tapered felt-like cocoon, which is covered with lichens parts. The time of flight of butterflies stretches from June to August, after another source from the second half of June to early September. The moths often run around on tree trunks and are attracted by artificial light sources.
