Battle of Bentonville

The Battle of Bentonville was named after a village in the U.S. state of North Carolina, west of Goldsborough. This took place from 19th to 21st March of the year 1865, shortly before the end of the American Civil War, bloody battles between the Union troops under General Sherman with a strength of about 60,000 men, and the ruins of the Tennessee Army under Johnston with 20,000 soldiers instead.

In this battle, from which emerged the Northern States as the winner, Sherman lost 1,646 of his soldiers. In Johnston's army fell 3,092 soldiers.

The battlefield was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1996 in memory of the battle as Bentonville Battlefield.
