Battle of Duns

The Battle of Duns (also Battle of Duns Park ) was as bloodless event in 1372 near the present village of Duns, Berwickshire, Scotland instead.

Background and " battle"

In retaliation for previous attacks marched Henry Percy, at that time Warden of the English Marches, at the head of an English army of about 7,000 men to Scotland, encountering only little resistance. After the troops had crossed the Tweed, they hit near Duns to their camp to wait for reinforcements from Berwick.

The Scottish farmers and shepherds of Duns used at this time a filled with pebbles kind of rattle to keep wild animals from their fields and herds. They crept up by night to the English camp, and then induced with these rattles a " pandemonium " ( make a hideous noise). Alarmed by this noise went through the English war horses and pack animals and devastated while the camp. The English troops awakened in this mess. Robbed of their beasts of burden and not be able to quickly restore order, the English army pulled back the same day on the Tweed and let it back almost all the equipment.
