Battle of Havrincourt

The Battle of Havrincourt was a battle of the First World War, which led through the Siegfried position to impact on breakthrough.

The Battle

Three divisions of the 3rd British Army, the 62nd (2nd West Riding ) Division, the New Zealand Division and the 2nd Division, crossed the Canal du Nord and attacked the village Havrincourt to that by four German divisions from the Third. and was defended X Army Corps. Despite their numerical superiority and strong fortifications in the city, the Germans were unable to hold their position. The victory was not particularly flashy or impressive, but it marks a growing lack of fighting spirit among the German soldiers on the Western Front. From this result encouraged Douglas Haig ordered another approach, which finally led through the Siegfried Line to the Battle of Épehy and then to the Battle of Saint- Quentin Canal, the breakthrough.
