The Battle of La Higueruela (Eng. about " Battle at the fig tree " ) took place on July 1, 1431 in the Vega of the Genil, near Granada instead.

Muhammad IX. , Emir of Granada from the Nasrid dynasty, had been able to overcome his greatest rival throne with the murder of his predecessor Muhammad VIII, but that also made its loyal vizier Ridwan Banûegas a bitter enemy. In May 1431 Ridwan Banûegas sought the Castilian King John II on at whose court in Córdoba and offered his support to install with Yusuf ibn al - Mawl a loyal rulers of Granada.

In July 1431 the Castilian army met under the leadership of Conde TableN Álvaro de Luna on the granadinian. The battle was a great military success for the Kingdom of Castile. The subsequently installed as a puppet of Castile Emir Yusuf IV found in the Emirate of Granada, however, no support and was only a few months remain in power. The episode is indicative of the internal state of the Nazarite kingdom, which suffered in the 15th century, internal power struggles and was finally abandoned to ruin.

The battle was held in numerous frescoes by Fabrizio Castello, Orazio Cambiaso and Lazzaro Tavarone in the gallery of battles in the Real Sitio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial.
