Battle of Luckau

The Battle of Luckau took place on June 4, 1813 during the liberation wars against Napoleonic France. The French Marshal Oudinot met here during his rise to about 70 km to the north lies Berlin surprising to the Prussian army corps under General von Bülow. Bülow, who had orders to secure his Prussian and Russian soldiers, the Mark Brandenburg and Berlin, succeeded by his victory over Oudinot to thwart the advance of the French troops on the Prussian capital.

Luckau was heavily damaged in the fighting; 120 houses, especially the entire eastern " Calauer suburban ", burned down, the Red Tower was damaged.

On the Schanzenberg west of the city you will find the former defenses of Prussia and a reminiscent of the battle monument.
