The Battle of Tanagra took place during the Peloponnesian War in 426 BC between Athens and its allied with Sparta and Thebes troops Tanagras instead.

In the year 426 BC the Athenian fleet landed by 60 vessels under Nicias, which was originally leaked to the overthrow of the island of Melos, in the east of Boeotia at Oropus. From there marched the entrained 2,000 hoplites against the city of Tanagra, with further Athenian troops that were brought up by Hipponicus and Eurymedon by land via the Parnitha mountains, on the road joined them. At Tanagra they managed a clear victory over the forces of Thebes and Tanagras, but withdrew the Athenians after the battle back to Attica back.

Two years later, Athens brought a similar plan of campaign against Boeotia again to run, but ended the resulting Battle of Delion with a clear defeat of Athens.
