Battle of the Giants (Fiji)

The Battle of the Giants is a full registered annually football competition for clubs in the largest provinces of Fiji under the supervision of the Fiji Football Association.

For the first time the tournament was held in 1978 to create another source of funds for the Fijian club. The idea for this came from J. D. Maharaj. This was the first time that a football competition was funded in Fiji by a sponsor. 1987 was the only year in which the tournament was not played. This was due to a military coup.

Mode

The top ten provinces take part in the Battle of the Giants. Currently, these are the teams from the provinces of Ba, Labasa, Lautoka, Nadi, Nadroga, Nasinu, Navua, Rewa, Suva and Tavua. The ten teams are divided into two groups of five clubs. Each club plays once against each other in the group. The best two teams from each group qualify for the semi-finals.
