Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra

The Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Munich is the largest orchestra of the Bavarian Radio. It was founded in 1949.

It is one of the best orchestras in Germany and also enjoys an excellent reputation around. A panel of editors from leading European music magazines chose it in 2006 to 6th place of all European orchestra. The British magazine Gramophone chose it in 2008 through a survey of music critics and got to number 6 of all orchestras in the world. His program focuses on the symphonic music of the classical, romantic and modern, but also for radio and CD productions of operas, the orchestra is regularly used, often together with the Choir of the Bavarian Radio. Main venues are the Philharmonie am Gasteig and the Hercules Hall of the Munich Residenz.

The orchestra received the 2006 Grammy Award for Best Orchestral Performance for his recording of the Symphony No. 13 by Dmitri Shostakovich.
