Baven is a part of the municipality Hermannsburg village in the northern district of Celle. It lies on the western edge of the Natural Park South Heath, in the Lüneburg Heath and currently has 1638 inhabitants.

History

First settlements are detectable for the older Bronze Age. In 1932 was written by Dr. Hans Piesker, an archaeologist from Hermannsburg, the excavated " House of the Dead of Baven ". Under a strong burnt layer in the Northwest sector of a hill, found the remains of an east-west oriented building and various grave goods, the ( 2200 BC -1600 BC), dated to the Early Bronze Age.

Until the 19th century Baven made ​​up of centuries from 15 farms, up by sale and division of a farmstead new settlement opportunities created and the population increased significantly.
