Bayard's Cove Fort

Bayard 's Cove Fort is a small artillery fort from the Tudor period in Dartmouth in the English county of Devon. It was 1510 by the Dartmouth Corporation, the Association of Dartmouther merchants, built overlooking the River Dart, and offered the situated at the mouth of the river in the English Channel port protection against invaders from the sea.

Bayard 's Cove Fort was the first fort in England, whose construction was initiated and paid for by private individuals.

Today it is managed by English Heritage and can be visited free of charge.
