Bayard Clarke

Bayard Clarke ( born March 17, 1815 in New York City; † June 20, 1884 in Schroon Lake, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1855 and 1857 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Bayard Clarke was one months born about after the end of British - American War in New York City. In 1836 he graduated from Geneva College. He studied law and was admitted as a lawyer. Between 1836 and 1840 he was Attaché of the ambassador to France, Lewis Cass. He studied at the Royal Cavalry School. On March 3, 1841, he was appointed Second Lieutenant in the eighth Infantry Regiment. He was assigned to the Second Dragoons in September 1841 where he served until his resignation on 15 December 1843. Then he settled in Westchester County.

He ran unsuccessfully in 1852 for a congress seat. In the following years, he joined the opposition party. In the congressional elections of 1854 for the 34th Congress Clarke was in the ninth election district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Jared V. Peck on March 4, 1855. He retired after March 3, 1857 from the Congress.

Clarke died on 20 June 1884 in Schroon Lake, and was buried in a crypt in Newtown.
