Baynesia lophophora is the only species of the monotypic genus Baynesia of the subfamily of milkweed plants ( Asclepiadoideae ). The botanical name of the genus refers to the occurrence in the Baynes Mountains of Namibia.

Description

Vegetative characteristics

Baynesia lophophora grows as a clumping stem succulent with upright shoots. The four -edged, soft, green shoots are slightly papillose. They are 3-8 inches long and 0.6 to 1.2 inches wide. Their conical warts are laterally flattened. The frail, heart-shaped, flattened conical, pointed leaves are 1 to 1.5 millimeters long.

Inflorescences and flowers

The seated, spitzennah trained inflorescence is provided with bracts. The inflorescence is one to dreiblütig (rarely to fünfblütig ). Your flower stalk is about 2 millimeters long. The lanceolate sepals have a length of 1.5 millimeters. The bell-shaped corolla is greenish outside and inside maroon. It is 3 to 4 mm long and 6-8 mm wide. The key-shaped corolla tube is about 1 mm long and 3 mm wide. The triangular, erect corolla lobes are about 2 millimeters long and 2 millimeters wide. Along its edges arched midrib they are roughly papillose. The double row, transparent to maroon corona has a length of about 1 mm and a width of 2 mm. The interstaminale Nebenkrone is overgrown shallow bowl-shaped at the base. Your point are triangular, acute, ascending and merge with the wing-like broadened base. Systematics, distribution and hazard

Baynesia lophophora is widespread in north-western Namibia.

The first description of the genus and its single species so far was in 2000 by Peter Vincent Bruyns.

Baynesia lophophora is on the Red List of Threatened Species IUCN as "Least Concern ( LC) ," ie, as not at risk classified.
