In October 2003, two months before the declaration of Libya to renounce the manufacture of weapons of mass destruction, the U.S. has intercepted the freighter BBC China, BBC Chartering and Logistic GmbH, Leer for clues by Urs Tinner. The ship BBC China to parts for the construction of gas ultracentrifuge (CCW ) worth more than 10 million euros have been on board and was scheduled to arrive in early October 2003 Libya. The disclosure of the scheduled delivery was a secret action of the British and Americans. This end of September 2003 had experienced, was that a freighter based in Leer shipping company loaded parts for the CCW in Dubai and set course for Libya. The intelligence agencies informed the German Federal Government, asking for help: The ship should be stopped and diverted to Italy. The federal government took from the vessel owner to contact, who had, according to government bodies shown very willing to cooperate. After passing through the Suez Canal, the ship took the same course at the Italian port of Taranto, so that the cargo could be inspected. A U.S. warship followed the freighter. Neither the crew nor the cruise line should have been aware that parts for a CCW arrived in Dubai on board. In the shipping documents was the charge of the client, in which it is according to the Süddeutsche Zeitung about a company from Asia, has been declared differently. Nuclear specialists of the British and U.S. authorities sighted the charge and let them seize. The crane capacity is enough currently to 800 t, short vessels with 900 tons (modified BBC Amber class) are planned. BBC Chartering is not shipowners own ships they charter the ships. Management, crewing, technical and nautical inspection and other aspects are taken over by other companies. BBC is responsible as a charterer for the commercial management of the vessels - their task is to find the right load for the right conditions for the right ship.

The fleet consists mostly of ships of the parent company Briese shipping, but there are also a number of ships from other companies, such as chartered eg the shipping company W. Bock crucible.

The chartered fleet has an average age of less than five years. In addition, it is characterized primarily by their high flexibility: Most ships are equipped with cranes and are therefore not dependent on the corresponding superstructure. In addition, many of the ships are classified with high ice class and thus to ride in a position even in winter waters where it comes to ice formation, such as the Baltic Sea.

At present (2011) are two major new projects running: First, the BBC Everest class with 9 new Mehrzweckschwergutfrachtern ( cranes with 700 tons lifting capacity), on the other hand, the BBC's Amber - class with 14 new heavy-lift ( crane with 800 tons lifting capacity ).
