BBC Philharmonic

The BBC Philharmonic Orchestra is the symphony orchestra of the British Broadcasting Corporation ( BBC). It is one of five radio orchestras of the transmitter. The orchestra is based in Manchester. Each year the orchestra are about 20 concerts at the Manchester Bridgewater Hall. It was founded in 1922 under the name " 2ZY Orchestra". Current chief conductor of the orchestra is Gianandrea Noseda, who also is music director of the Teatro Regio in Turin since 2006. In 1991, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies was appointed the first resident composer. His successor in this position was James MacMillan, who was in turn replaced in 2009 by the Austrian composer HK Gruber in 2000. Among the conductors with whom the orchestra collaborates regularly Yan Pascal Tortelier include honorary conductor, Vassily Sinaisky as the official first guest conductor Günther Herbig, Yutaka Sado, Juanjo Mena and Ludovic Morlot.
