Beach of La Concha

The beach of La Concha (Basque: Kontxa Hondartza, Spanish: Playa de La Concha ) is a beach in the Bay of La Concha ( German: The Shell ), whose name comes from its distinctive shape. He is one of the most famous urban beaches in Europe.

Location

The beach is located on the outskirts of San Sebastian in the Spanish autonomous community of Basque Country, 20 km west of the border with France in the arch of the Gulf of Biscay. He has an average length of 1,350 meters and an average width of 40 meters. The beach area is approximately 54,000 m².

The bay is bordered by the rocky peaks of Mount Igueldo and Urgull. The wide arc of the beach with the beach promenade and located between La Concha and the mouth of the river Urumea Parte Vieja and Alderdi Zaharra ( German: Old San Sebastián) are well-known tourist attractions.
