Bearer Independent Call Control

The Bearer Independent Call Control ( BICC) is a signaling protocol that has been specified by the ITU- T in Recommendation Q.1901 with regard to the integration of existing communication networks into a single network infrastructure as a universal standard.

BICC is meant as a compatible replacement for the ISUP used previously. In contrast to ISUP, BICC based on the consistent separation of call signaling and control of the connection in the transport network. BICC thus enables the provision of existing analog and ISDN services independent of the used transport network technology (eg circuit-switched ISDN or data- packet-oriented Internet).

The necessary coordination of the separate in BICC call control and connection control is handled using Megaco / H.248.
