Beat Furrer

Beat Furrer ( born December 6, 1954 in Schaffhausen ) is an Austrian composer and conductor of Swiss origin.

Life

Beat Furrer was born in Schaffhausen in 1954. In 1975 he moved to Vienna and studied composition with Roman hood -Ramati and conducting with Otmar Suitner. In 1984, he won the composition competition " Young Generation in Europe", in 1992 he received a grant from the Siemens Music Prize, he was awarded the Music Prize of the city of Duisburg in 1993.

In 1985, Furrer along with Viktor Liberda KlangForum Vienna, its artistic director until 1992. Since 1991 he has been Professor of Composition at the University of Arts in Graz. In 1996 he was composer in residence at the Lucerne Festival. Since the winter semester 2006/ 07 he was a visiting professor of composition at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt am Main. Furrer is a member of the appointed by the German Federal Cultural Foundation Board of Trustees for the New Music Network.
