Beate Koch

Beate Koch ( born August 18, 1967 in Jena) is a former German athlete who had - starting for the GDR - won the bronze medal in the javelin throw with 67.30 meters at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul ( 67.30 to 65.66 - 66.48 to 62.04 - 65.64 to 66.02 ).

Beate Koch competed for the SC Motor Jena and trained with Karl Hellmann. Qualifying for the Olympic team of the GDR had achieved a surprising leap in performance: Within the competition season 1988 she improved her personal best by 11 meters - from 57.78 m to 68.80 m - and was third in the GDR championships. After the end of the GDR, she moved to LAC Quelle Fürth, but could not repeat her previous success.

In their active time was Beate Koch 1,81 m tall and weighed 75 kg. For her sporting success at the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 she was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze.
