Beatjuggling

Beatjuggling is a term used in music, especially hip- hop field. It refers to the art of the DJ, rearrange short sections from two different records in real time to a new rhythm.

Technology

For the Beatjuggling two turntables are used as a kind of primitive sampler. In the simplest case, two identical plates are used: one plate is held at the beginning of a clock appears with the mixer, and released. Meanwhile, the second, just inaudible plate, shot on the same clock start and held there until shortly before the start of the next cycle of the current drive. At this moment the second panel is displayed and released over the crossfader. During these runs, the first plate is now rotated back to the starting point of the clock, and the game begins anew.

This technique was invented by Kool Herc to extract from the break of a radio - plate an instrumental section. This makes it possible to give a rapper singing a free rhythm or beat, over which he can rap. This basic technique was very popular until the 1990s in connection with body tricks.

The great difficulty of Beatjuggling is that with a conventional radio in the speed of about 110 BPM remains just half a second time to turn a plate precisely at the right point. So it is even with the above-described basic technique is a very good timing required. To even rediscover starting points in time, usually small stickers are stuck to the plate.

Variations

Starting from this basis, developed a myriad of variations, for example to use different, sometimes much shorter sections in order to play more complex rhythms. This analysis also takes individual sounds, such as cut out as the beat of a snare, used different plates, or even entirely omitted the second plate. The Beatjuggling with a plate called Beat Cutting will be more likely associated with the scratching.
