Beatrice Straight

Beatrice Whitney Straight ( born August 2, 1914 in Old Westbury / New York, † April 7, 2001 in Los Angeles ) was an American actress.

Beatrice Straight debuted in 1935 in Bitter Oleander on Broadway and had her first film role in 1952 in a stranger calls on the side of Gary Merrill, from which it is called. In 1976, she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in Network, although it is to be seen in just 5 minutes and 40 seconds - the shortest film appearance, has ever been awarded the Oscar.

She was married twice, to May 24, 1949 Louis Dolivet and from 2 June 1949 to actor Peter Cookson († 1990), and has two children from his second marriage. She died of pneumonia.
