Beaumont, Ardèche

Beaumont is a commune with 214 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in Ardèche, in the Rhône -Alpes. Its inhabitants are called in French Beaumontois and Beaumontoises.

Geography

The municipality of Beaumont is located on the river Beaume and consists of twelve small hamlets at the foot of the Cevennes, the largest of which La Roche, Le Gua and La Font des Roches hot. The rivers Drobie and Salindres traverse the green community area in the southwest of the department. Beaumont is part of the Regional Natural Park of Monts d' Ardèche. Neighboring municipalities are Valgorge and Ribes. The next largest city is Aubenas 20 kilometers away to the northeast.

History

First, the community was under the suzerainty of the Beaumont family, in the 17th century took over the VogueThere the final say on Beaumont.

Only since the end of the last century Beaumont is connected by a road with its neighboring communities. Previously a dirt road for mule drivers was the only connection to the valley of the Beaume. The construction of a bridge, which was given in 1850 for 6,000 francs in order, failed because the building due to the floods caused by heavy storms in August, was swept away before the actual inauguration. This misfortune meant financial ruin of the inhabitants.

Culture and sights

Beaumont is an ancient village, the barns are still covered with Kalkschieferplatten. Some of them have been converted into restaurants. The Romanesque church with its steeple flat consists of limestone. The Pont du Gua is a bridge over the Beaume that connects the villages of Beaumont and Sanilhac. The best panoramic view over the municipality has the Croix de la Tour aces, a vantage point above Beaume and Drobie.

Economy and infrastructure

The municipality of Beaumont living from agriculture. On the mountain slopes olives, chestnuts, wine and raspberries are grown. In addition, the sheep is an important source of income of the citizens who are still working for the most part as farmers.
