Beaumont (Haute-Savoie)

Beaumont is a town in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Beaumont is located at 755 m above sea level. M., about 11 km south of the city of Geneva (air line). The village stretches a scenic location on the northwest slope of the Salève, at the edge of the Genevois south of the basin of Geneva, near the border with Switzerland.

The area of ​​9.74 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Genevois. The municipal area extends from the little valley of the Nant de Feigères (source stream of the Aire ) eastward across the plateau of Le Chable and the slope of Beaumont. This is followed on the southeast by the densely wooded steep slopes of Grand Salève. On the Grand Piton, a crest on the broad ridge of Salève, is 1375 m above sea level. M. reached the highest elevation of Beaumont and the entire Salève.

At Beaumont alongside the original village and the settlement Le Chable (666 m above sea level. M. ) is at the foot of Salève and on the main street of Saint -Julien -en- Genevois to Annecy. Neighboring communities of Beaumont are Neydens in the north, Archamps and Le Sappey in the east, the south and Présilly Feigères in the West.

History

The place is probably inhabited since the 5th century AD. In the late Middle Ages it belonged to the Bailiwick Ternier, which fell in 1536 under Bernese domination. At the same time the Reformation was introduced in Beaumont. 1793, the previously independent municipalities Beaumont, Jussy and Le Chable were summarized in the municipality of Beaumont- Jussy - Chable. Since 1951, the seat of the municipal administration in Le Chable, the largest town in the municipality of Beaumont.

Attractions

The village church dates from the 19th century. Parts of the Château de Menthon are obtained.

Population

With 2173 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Beaumont is one of the smaller towns in the Haute-Savoie region. Since the 1960s, a continuous, since 2000, a strong population growth was recorded. Especially in Le Chable created numerous houses.
