Beawar (Hindi: ब्यावर, Byāvar; Nayanagar also ) is a city in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It has around 145,000 inhabitants and is the capital of the district of Beawar. The trade city is located in Aravalligebirge.

History

Beawar is a fairly young city by Indian standards. It was (near the princely states of Jaipur, Udaipur and Marwar ) founded in 1835 by the British Colonel Dixon at a strategically located place. In 1901 the town had 21,928 inhabitants. The name of the city can be traced back to a village called " Beawar Khas ".

Economy

The city is known for its cotton production. The industries include food production and the cement factory Shree Cement Ltd..

The nearest airport is 180 km away in Jaipur.

Policy

Beawar is currently (2010) an MP in the Indian lower house. Shankar Singh Rawat is a member of the Indian People's Party.
