Bedford TM

The Bedford TM was a heavy truck that was manufactured by Bedford 1974-1986. Until the introduction of the TM Bedford had only light trucks for short distances, such as the TK or the KM built. When it was seen that heavy long -haul trucks with luxury cabins, such as the Volvo F88 Scania 110 or the Leyland Marathon always gained greater market share to Bedford decided to bring out the TM as a competitor.

Drive

In its entire production period, there was the TM with two-stroke V6 and V8 diesel engines from Detroit Diesel, of Bedford 500 turbo engine or the Cummins L10. The engine power is transmitted via a manual transmission of Fuller Manufacturing or Dana Spicer at the Soma - rear axle. The Detroit Diesel engines were not particularly happy choice for Britain. Because of their high speeds they were the drivers, who were accustomed to low-revving, long-stroke four-stroke diesel from UK, unpopular. The operators did not want these engines because of the high diesel consumption.

Variants

The wagons were available as regular trucks or tractors, with normal or extended cab, with or without sleeping cabin. The cars were very successful and seen at many major logistics company in the UK. In particular, for a Bedford, they showed a new standard in comfort and facilities.

Manufacturing setting

1986, when Bedford collapsed, the production of the TM was adjusted. However, the British Armed Forces still use a number of TM -wheel drive.
