Bedřichov (Jablonec nad Nisou District)

Bedřichov ( German Friedrich Forest) is a municipality in the Czech Jizera Mountains. It is near Liberec and Jablonec nad Nisou.

Geography

The place is located in the valley of the White River Neisse ( Bila Nisa ), a source of the river Neisse. Near the village two dams were built, the drinking water supply of cities Liberec ( Reichenberg ) and Jablonec nad Nisou ( Jablonec ) are used. The dam Friedrichswald ( Vodní nádrž Bedřichov ) dammed the Black Neisse ( Cerna Nisa ) and is located north of the village. To the northeast lies the dam Josefsthal ( Vodní nádrž Josefodolská ), where the Kamnitz ( Kamenice ) is jammed.

History

The Friedrich Walder glassworks was built in 1598 by master glass maker Peter walking. She was the starting point for the early spread of a settlement, which in honor of the first rule owner of the dynasty of Rederns, Friedrich von Rederns the Elder was named († 1564). Frederick was the father of Melchior von Rederns, the then owner of the rule which prevailed in Reichenberg 1591-1600.

The place was first called Friedrichswaldaw, later Friedrichswalde and from the 18th century and belonged Friedrichswald from the mid-19th century to the judicial district of Liberec. After 1918 was next to the German names of the Czech name Bedřichov.

Economic Development

The production of the glassworks was set in 1807. The town lives mainly from tourism. The locality is now a ski resort in the Jizera Mountains and downhillers very popular.

The place is also the start and destination of Isergebirgslaufes about 50 km. The Isergebirgslauf held annually in January in Bedřichov instead.

To Bedřichov includes forest settlement Kristiánov ( Christian Thal ).
