Life

Bedros Dourian was born into a poor Armenian family, the father was a blacksmith in the Ottoman capital Istanbul. The schoolmaster of Dourian was the satirist Hagop Baronian. Educated in French, Dourian was well read in Hugo, Lamartine, and de Musset and brought a lyrical and sentimental quality in his poetry. Spontaneous, eloquent and enriched with images and metaphors, his poems reveal an artistic brilliance, and paved the way for innovations from the old style of writing. Critics certified Dourian the creation of a new modern poet tradition in verse. His poems have been translated into Italian, German, Russian, French and English.

The Armenian theater was his passion, and despite the resistance of his father, he pursued an active theater life to write plays and perform on stage. Given the poverty of his family, the financial benefit granted him the acting, be a factor to defy his father's wishes. Some of his plays are "Black Country " (1868 ), " Artashes, the Peace Keeper " (1969), "Fall of the House of Arschakiden " (1870 ), " Captures Ani, the capital of Armenia" (1871 ) and " theater or outsider " (1871 ). "Theatre or outsider " (or " loin people " ) deals with the problems of social injustice and moral decay. In the piece on stage two lovers commit suicide. The story is reminiscent of Dourian more in his poetry as in his plays, although originally his plays earned him fame in his lifetime.

The poem Small lake is an allusion to the fact that Tourian, who was in love with an actress, her contemptuous reply, " Him? He trembles and is so pale he - could even die one of these days! " ( Which he did ) ignored.
