Beep (sound)

Beep called an audible signal from a computer. The tones are generated by a system speaker. They can be generated by the computer even if the operating system has not even been loaded or not responding.

BIOS Beep

Beep signals are used by the BIOS for error detection. The number and length of the sound generated is an indication of the source of errors. The beep signal can also sound when the computer has no sound card.

Software Beep

The beep signal can also be caused by computer programs using the ASCII control character Bell. It is used to alert the user to the system in urgent cases.
