Behamberg is a municipality with 3239 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Amstetten in Lower Austria.

Geographical location

Behamberg is in the Most district in Lower Austria.

Community structure

Behamberg consists of the four local villages ( population figures as per 2011 census registers ):

  • Badhof ( 4.33 km ², 309 Ew. )
  • Penz (including Behamberg place, post office & other districts ) (7.10 km ², 1,816 inhabitants).
  • Ramingdorf (1.64 km ², 379 Ew. )
  • Wanzenöd ( 7.26 km ², 740 Ew. )

History

In ancient times, the area was part of the province of Noricum. In the core Austrian state of Lower Austria lying the place told the eventful history of Austria.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms shows the lion doppelschweifigen of the former crown lands Bohemia on green Dreienberg. The purpose is as canting arms a reference to the place name. The place name Behamberg ( = mountain of Bohemia) has in its interpretation on a Slavic settlement of the 9th or 10th century back ( Beham / Böhme = synonym for slave ), which is to be regarded as a forerunner of today's settlement. The green Dreienberg addition to the hilly landscape of the Alpine foothills in which the municipality is located symbolize.

In the red coat of arms with a green mountain in the sign a three- reinforced black silver doppelschwänziger gold crowned lion grows.

Policy

Mayor of the municipality is Karl Josef Stegh, office manager Harald Schwödiauer. In the council there after the municipal elections of 2010 a total of 23 seats following distribution of seats: 16 ÖVP, SPÖ 5, FPÖ 2, no other seats.
