Behice Boran

Behice Sadık Boran ( born May 1, 1910 in Bursa, † October 7, 1987 in Brussels) was a Turkish sociologist and politician.

Biography

Boran attended Robert College in Istanbul and then studied at the University of Michigan in the U.S. sociology. She graduated in 1939 with a doctorate and began her professional activities at the Faculty of Language, History and Geography at the University of Ankara. In 1946 she married Nevzat Hatko.

In 1950, she was sentenced to a prison term of 15 months for protesting against the participation of Turkey in the Korean War. In 1961 she joined the Turkish Workers' Party ( TIP) and was elected to the party in 1965 in Urfa into Parliament; In 1970, she became party chairman. After the coup in 1971, the party was banned and condemned Behice borane to a prison term of 15 years. In 1974 she was granted amnesty, however, and founded the Workers' Party now under the old name. After the coup of 1980, she had to leave Turkey again and went to Sofia, Dusseldorf and Brussels into exile. After she failed to comply with a request to return, her Turkish citizenship was revoked following a Decree of the military junta. In 1987, she announced the union of illegally continue existing TIP with the Communist Party of Turkey. A short time later, she died at the age of 77 years in Brussels.

As part of the tip they fought for a legitimate way to socialism and rejected the representation of Kurdish special interests.

As one of the first Turkish politicians and sociologists practiced their example of influence on other Turkish women. The Association of Turkish social scientist named an award after her, has been awarded since 2011.
