Bekecs

Bekecs is a town in Borsod -Abaúj -Zemplén.

Geographical Location

Bekecs lies in northern Hungary, 32 kilometers from county capital Miskolc. Neighboring municipalities are Legyesbénye 2 km and 8 km Taktaszada. The nearest town is Szerencs.

History

The name has probably received in the 12th century by the family Bekecs the community. During the Ottoman period, the village was deserted and was subsequently resettled. 1625 worked here Psalm translator Szenczi Albert Molnár. Since the 19th century Bekecs was no longer an independent municipality. The site was part of the community and belonged Legyesbénye after the Second World War to Szerencs. Since 1956, the place is independent again.
