Béla Fleck and the Flecktones

Béla Fleck and the Flecktones is an American band whose music is predominantly instrumental allocated to the areas bluegrass and jazz, as well as combinations thereof.

Career

" Béla Fleck and the Flecktones " was founded in 1988 by Béla Fleck. In the first occupation was still playing Howard Levy on keyboards and harmonica and the brothers Victor and Roy Wooten on bass and Synthaxe. After three albums Howard Levy left the band in 1992; The band then played on as a trio until 1998, Jeff Coffin during the recording of the album " Left of Cool" to thrust. Since then plays " Béla Fleck and the Flecktones " in the same line- more studio albums and organizes regular tours with often up to 200 concerts a year. For the studio album " Rocket Science", the band formed in 2011 in its original line-up with Levy and without Coffin.

Béla Fleck and the Flecktones have been nominated for numerous Grammys and won up to now three of these awards. In addition to the work on joint albums, follow the individual band members own projects.

Occupation

The namesake Béla Fleck plays acoustic and electric banjos; he plays a very idiosyncratic, improvisation rich style with elements of bluegrass, folk and jazz. Victor Wooten plays the bass and is known for its innovative style and his excellent technique. His brother Roy Wooten, who calls himself Futureman plays percussion on a developed his own instrument, a SynthAxe, which he has developed for controlling further drum machine. Jeff Coffin plays the saxophone and, more rarely, flute. Howard Levy plays piano and harmonica, often simultaneously.
