Béla Markó

Béla Markó ( born September 8, 1951 in Târgu Secuiesc, Romania ) is a Transylvanian - Hungarian writer, poet, teacher and politician.

Curriculum vitae

Béla Markó graduated in 1974 at the Babeş -Bolyai University in Cluj- Napoca in the subjects of Hungarian and French. He was then to 1976 in primary school by Sâncraiu de Mureş worked as a French teacher. After that, he was until 1989 the editor of the Hungarian-language literary magazine Igaz Szó (German word of truth ). Since 1989 he has been editor in chief of the installed in Târgu Mureş literary weekly magazine Látó (German seer ). He also published numerous articles in textbooks.

After the political upheaval of 1989, he began to actively engage with politics. He is a member of the Hungarian and the Romanian Writers' Union and General Secretary of the Hungarian PEN Club Romániai. Since 1990 he has been a senator in the Romanian Parliament as a representative of the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania ( UDMR RMDSZ ), as its president, he served from 1992 to 2011. From 2004 to 2007 he was responsible for the supervision of European integration efforts of Romania as well as for education and cultural activities as deputy prime minister.
