Belén is the 8th sector of the department of Salto on the eastern bank of the Uruguay River north of the mouth of the Río Grande Arapey in this town in Uruguay. Downstream lies south of the capital of the department, Salto. North of Belén is Bella Unión.

History

The city was founded on March 14, 1801. On May 7, 1862 Belén was classified by the Act No. 705 in the " pueblo " category.
