Belgian railway line 96

The 75.5 km long double-track railway line Brussels - Quévy ( France) connects the Brussels agglomeration via Halle ( Belgium), Braine -le- Comte, Mons and Quévy with France.

Operation and history

The by the " Etat Belge " ( in the section Brussel Midi- Mons, Ligne dorsal ) and the " North of Belgium " built on (see Mons- Quévy ) railway line was opened in several sections:

In the 1930s, the route was extended in section Brussels -Mons, it was, inter alia, a single-track tunnel at Braine -le- Comte, who in 1957 was expanded to double track. Until the end of April 1963, the track was also realigned between Mons and frame Ries. Until the 6th of January 1963, the railway line between Brussels and Braine -le- Comte was electrified. Train services

Since the section of Brussels-Halle is part of the high-speed line Brussels -Lille, is the route there most densely traveled ( TGV, Thalys, etc.). Only the Interregio Brussels Airport Brussels Quévy uses the total distance.

Accident

On 15 February 2010, it came at 08:28 clock on the route 96E ( Spoorlijn 96) between Buizingen and hall to the fateful accident in Belgium for decades with 18 deaths and many serious injuries.
