Belinda Bidwell

Belinda Bidwell (* April 22, 1936, † April 28, 2007 in Fajara / Bakau ) was a Gambian politician and former Speaker of the National Assembly of the country.

Life

Bidwell studied at the University of Oxford and earned a bachelor 's degree in Environmental Studies. Then she went to the University of Chicago and graduated in 1973. Upon graduating, she returned to Gambia and taught at the Gambia College, where she taught until her retirement in the early 1990s.

After her retirement, she taught voluntarily some time at the St. Joseph's Senior Secondary School and Gambia High School in Banjul as a teacher. From April 2006 until January 2007 was the speaker of the National Assembly ( Speaker of the National Assembly), before, she had since 2002 been Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly ( Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly). Her successor was Fatoumatta Jahumpa - Ceesay.

Bidwell died on the morning of April 28, 2007 in her home in Fajara after a heart attack at the age of 72 years.
