Belitsa

Beliza (Bulgarian: Белица; often: Belitsa ) is a town in southwestern Bulgaria. The city is the administrative center of the homonymous municipality Beliza in Blagoevgrad. The nearest town is Jakoruda. Beliza has a mild Mediterranean climate. Due to many cultural attractions, the city is visited by tourists.

Due to the mild climate and excellent location, the community many winter sports are run, which attracted tourists.

The community Beliza created a comprehensive business plan for the years 2000-2006 in order to attract more foreign tourists. In Beliza of many hotels, sports facilities and holiday homes were built. Above all, the holiday homes were built for the Technical University of Sofia.

Geography

The municipality is located in the basin of the river Mesta, trapped between the mountains, Rila, Pirin and the Rhodopes. It is located in the north-eastern part of the district of Blagoevgrad. The municipality borders the regions of Bansko, Razlog, Samokov, Jakoruda and Pazardzhik.

The municipality covers 12 cities, 8 of them are located in the Rhodope Mountains.

The total area of the municipality is 293 536 hectares, of which 221 862 hectares of forest and 63 205 hectares of agricultural land, which are used by farmers. The region is mostly mountainous. The average inclination of the region is 9.1 percent. The area includes parts of the Rila, Rhodopes and a large area of the river valley of the Belischka Reka.
