Belleville (Ontario)

Belleville [ bɛlvɪl ] is a city in Ontario, Canada and has about 49 454 inhabitants (as of 2011).

Belleville is located on Highway 401 between the Canadian cities Toronto (192 km) and Montreal ( 356 km ) and about 20 km from Lake Ontario. The capital of Canada, Ottawa, is located 221 kilometers away.

History

The oldest known settlement was the Indian village Asaukhknosk, which was replaced by a French mission called kente. After that, she was named after prominent residents Thurlow Village, Singleton 's Creek and Meyers ' Creek.
