Belo Horizonte Metro

Metrô de Belo Horizonte is the metro system of the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte.

Line 1

Construction of the metro began in 1981 with the track from Eldorado to São Gabriel. It included 16 stations on a length of 23.5 km and runs completely above ground. The first connection between Eldorado and Lagoinha (then without the station Vila Oest ) was put into operation on 1 August 1986. The construction had to be stopped due to financial problems in 1987; until then about half of the route (12,5 km and 7 stations) was completed. Four years later the building was continued and finally completed in 2002 with the commissioning of the station Vilarinho. The entire metro route was 28.1 km long and operated 19 stations. In 2001 the underground of the CBTU was founded in 1984 ( Companhia Brasileira de Trens Urbano ) was handed over to the corporation Trem Metropolitano de Belo Horizonte SA, but is subject to administratively continue the state Group CBTU. The train is operated daily from 5:45 bis 23:00 clock clock.

Further expansion

Line 1

In the long run, the line can be one extended beyond the current two termini.

Line 2

Another line, line 2, is since 1998 under construction. It will branch off from the station Calafate and south lead to Barreiro. This stretch will be about 9 km long and comprise a total of 6 stops. As a kind of by-pass line 1 is assembled to form a connection with the line 2 on the station Christina Tereza at the junction Santa Teresa ( line 1). Here it intersects the line 3 also is called Line 2 and will be 11 km long.

Line 3

Furthermore, a line 3 in conversation, which is to pass through the city center in north-south direction and provides access to the airport.
